Why did you decide to run?
Pete Trzos: I decided to run because I’m tired of selfishly-motivated, crazy, and unqualified people dominating politics. Our elected officials in no way represent the values of The People, nor the principles America was founded on. Their goal of enriching themselves through political connections, rather than succeeding in the real world is at odds with serving their constituents. We need virtuous, qualified, and accessible people in every level of government, and I’m stepping up to try and give us one!
PT: I see public office not as a chance to enrich myself at the expense of others, nor as a way to dictate how anyone else lives their life. I have no desire to be a career politician! Our Founding Fathers envisioned public office as a temporary position taken to serve your fellow man, and I agree. Politicians should have to live under the rules they’ve created for everyone else, and never be isolated from the real world. They should also be qualified, be it through education, work, or life experience, to vote intelligently on bills presented to them. I have an extremely thorough, science-based education, with heavy emphasis on healthcare, epidemiology, statistics, medicine, agriculture, physics, nutrition, and alternative energy sources to name a few. I take great pride in my love of learning, which has given me the tools and knowledge to do what’s best for everyone. I place no value on the intentions of laws, only in their effects!
What does the Tenth Amendment mean to you?
PT: Absolutely, which is why my father and I are trying to make a difference! We are currently wrapping up several anti-civil asset forfeiture ballot initiatives while campaigning for office ourselves. A small group of people can make an enormous difference locally, which is where government has the most influence over your life.
What is the single most important political issue facing Michiganders moving forward?
PT: Widespread corruption and abuse at every level of government, all the way from the very top down to our local city councils. It’s absolutely unbelievable, and every problem MI faces stems from there. We need honest, qualified and sincere men and women serving in every office, something that I hope I will inspire others to do.
