Last Tuesday was a bittersweet day for the liberty movement in Michigan and the rest of the country. We saw the re-election of a man who is personally responsible for the indefinite detention provision of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2011, Barack Obama. Thinking about what is in store for America during term two of his reign isn’t a pleasant thought. But there were victories and there is a silver lining moving forward for those of us desperate to re-institute Constitutional government in the United States.

In Michigan, there is much to be happy about. We saw the re-election of Justin Amash, who spoke before a committee in the State Congress in support of NDAA nullification some weeks back. We saw the election of Kerry Bentivolio in the 11th District who spoke before the Oakland County Commissioners helping us get the NDAA nullified there. This means that there will be at least two voices in the House of Representatives devoted to the Constitution who will never vote to destroy our rights, our economy or our personal and economic liberties just in Michigan alone!

In addition, two states passed historic measures to legalize marijuana. Washington and Colorado have taken brave steps to enact sensible legislation and combat the Federal War on Medicine which has been waged futilely and at great cost to the taxpayer for the past several decades. These trailblazing states have nullified the federal overreach that was putting non-violent people behind bars on a regular basis. The legalization measures will help the economy, allow prisons to deal exclusively with people who are an actual threat to society, free up police to concentrate their resources on violent threats amongst other immediate benefits. Other states are already introducing legislation to legalize elsewhere as well. Take that, feds!

This election has also sent the Republican Party into turmoil. There seems to be a civil war brewing between the constituents and the party leadership. The constituents want limited government. They don’t want to be sattled with insane amounts of debt on their backs. They don’t want career politicians voting against the Constitution to give themselves more power. The Republican Party establishment has a different set of values than this, to say the least.

They prove it often with their words and actions. Contrary to the ridiculous spin coming out of the media machine post-election, the reason why the Republicans lost to Obama was because they ran a milquetoast fake conservative candidate with no connection to grassroots conservatives. No, Mitt Romney wasn’t a far right Ayn Rand clone contrary to the fantasies that leftist pundits have dreamed up. He was the guy who talked endlessly about how he’d keep government programs and expand some by trillions of dollars. He was the guy who said, “If you take a trillion dollars for instance, out of the first year of the federal budget, that would shrink GDP over 5%… So I’m not going to do that, of course. ” He also opined that there could be “no free market without regulation.” And people were supposed to believe that this guy would have led our country out of the morass? Gimme a break.

So this was the candidate they put up. And he lost big time, even against someone as horrendous as Obama. He wasn’t the only big loser of the night. George W. Bush’s number one man Karl Rove also had a rough going. After raising and spending $1 billion through various outfits, he saw 10 of the 12 Senatorial candidates he backed fall along with the Presidential candidate who he spent $127 million promoting. Billionaire Sheldon Adelson backed mostly establishment candidates in races throughout the country and saw every one of them come up defeated.

With results like these, you think the GOP would go back to the drawing board. You’d think they would learn the lesson to stop alienating their base. But that’s not what they have done at all. As a matter of fact, they have done the opposite and doubled down with their contempt of their constituents. A great example of this is Republican House leader John Boehner’s comments after the election regarding the rightfully despised Obamacare legislation.

But the Republican Party establishment’s loss is the liberty movement’s gain. We certainly do not believe that Obamacare is ‘the law of the land.’ We believe it is an abominable infringement into the lives of Americans, and we won’t just roll over and accept this egregious assault on our freedom. This is the biggest victory in the liberty movement that came out of the election. Conservatives are more angry than ever, and they are looking for solutions. They will be confronted with a choice between the Republican Party establishment and the liberty movement. Who will they choose? Will they choose the clique who lost big on election night that says Obamacare is the law of the land, and we all just need to shut our mouths and live with it? Or will they choose the Tenth Amendment Center and our allies who say that it is our duty to fight not just Obamacare but all unconstitutional edicts of the federal government through the Jefferson approved remedy of state nullification? The choice could not be more obvious. Work to reach out to conservatives so they make the right choice today by joining the Tenth Amendment Center in Michigan!
